Being Happy With My Own Company

There comes a moment in your life when you realise that you need to start putting yourself first. Mine was very recently. I’ve spent a lot of time focused on making other people happy, and moving my life around to suit their needs. But it’s about time I start focusing on myself and putting my own needs first for once.

I’m a self proclaimed introvert – that can act like an extrovert when the situation requires it. So I’m naturally pretty happy with my own company. If anything when I’ve not go my own space or I’ve not been given time to myself for awhile I can get really frustrated.

So now, when the whole nation (and world to an extent) are stuck inside either on their own or with family, I’m grateful for how young I was when I learnt to be content with my own company. But it’s also making me realise how much I crave that alone time when nobody is able to leave the house.

In a bid to stay productive and do my bit in helping others during this pandemic situation I wanted to share my tips on how I became happy with my own company.

Get Happier

The range of emotions we experience is vast, but for many of us there’s just one that we want to get our hands on – happiness. I’m a big believer in feeling all the emotions, it’s healthy to feel sad sometimes and it’s OK if we’re not jumping for joy every day.

I’ve been jumping for joy a little less lately, and that’s totally OK. We all go through peaks and troughs when it comes to being happy. In the past I’ve been horribly low and also a shinier, happier version of my current self.

Most of us meander between the two extremes depending on circumstances, life stages and mindset. Going between the two has however given me a good understanding of what I need to feel ‘happy’. To feel content.

Creating Content: Seeking Balance & Why I’m Trying to Focus More on My Blog

Between family, friends, work, and time for yourself do you ever feel like there’s just not enough time in a day? This is a constant uphill battle for some. This is the part of the day when I start thinking to myself, how can I be productive? Should I catch up on blog posts, work on my YouTube channel, or check-in with social media to see what’s trending?

This is also the part where my brain goes a million miles a second, and I become super motivated. I found that since I’m more productive during the wee hours of the night, I try to collect my ideas throughout the week then let my mind run wild come Friday and Saturday night.

During the week, my evenings consist of family time, and in the blink of an eye, its time for bed. Before you know it, my alarm is going off and back to work. It’s a shame that life gets so busy that the days of the week become one big blur, and at times you have to remind yourself to slow down just to remember what day it is.

Finding a good work-life balance is part of life. Some of us have conquered it, while others struggle with it. Whether it’s building a happy home, maintaining productivity at work, or creating time for a social life, finding a good balance can be tricky. Just remember that by letting the good Lord lead the way, anything is possible. Continue reading

What about finding the beauty in our every day lives?

Mundane
Adjective

  1. Lacking interest or excitement; dull.

===========

Let’s face it — life can be mundane sometimes. There’s the day in, day out shuffle of work or school or whatever else it is you do on a daily basis and no matter what you do to try to spice things up, things will probably start to feel boring at some point. Often we can get caught up thinking that if we lived in a busier city or a more beautiful area we would be able to take more amazing pictures or videos. Lately however I’ve been finding myself appreciating the mundane everyday scenes in my life and using the techniques I have learned to capture them in the most visually pleasing way possible at the given time. This has given me a whole new respect for photography/videography and the gorgeous scenes around me that I overlook on a regular basis.

This appreciation of the mundane has taught me a lot in the way of composing my shots and respecting where the light is falling to get the best photo/video possible of something that is ultimately quite boring. As with all art there is no failing but the exercise itself is a great way to learn more about light and capturing it through a photo/video. And also as a way to express what you think looks interesting.

Even if you don’t think the result is a breathtaking photo/video simply enjoy the process of composing a shot. This approach takes away the pressure we put on ourselves. If you don’t mind check out my Youtube video “‌Heni Eka Sari”. :p

The other day on Tumblr, I spotted this intriguing photograph created by Amanda Mabel and it got me to thinking: why can’t I find more magic in the mundane? I ask this question not in the sense of why doesn’t the magic exist, but in the sense of why can’t I personally find the magic that’s already there. Continue reading

Q&A: Things You Should Know As An Adult, Exposing Life After College

Well, sort of.

Over the years (and by years, I mean the last five years I’ve been considered “an adult”), I’ve realized that very few of us actually know how to be adults. And it’s not to say that we are immature or anything. We just lack the knowledge when it comes to things we should already know how to do.

And who’s to blame for this? Your parents, your teachers, your friends? Maybe all of the above? Regardless, now that we’re adults, it’s your turn to take the torch. Investing in yourself is the foundation for becoming a wise, well-functioning adult.

Considering that I’m probably no more of an adult than you are, I’ve recruited some help. Some of the “adultiest” adults I know shared some ideas of what they thought were most important when it comes to being an adult. I’ve decided to share these things with you, in hopes that we can all grow up together. Continue reading

Add a Little Zen

Hi there lovelies,

It has been a while since I have been in this space. These past few months have been a mishmash of all things crazy. Highs and lows and everything in between. I found myself feeling quite uninspired and literally wanting to take a nap until the year ends.

When I find myself feeling off-balance I always look for ways to get myself centered again because I am totally useless to those nearest and dearest to me when I am not functioning at my peak. Let’s face it none of us are. Life can just throw you some curve balls but you just have to take the hit and keep on moving.’ Continue reading

When I am Extremely Busy

It is a busy busy world out there, and at times it feels like there’s just not enough hours in the day to conquer it all. A full time job, pregnancy, healthy eating, a social life, extracurricular activities, and we’re supposed to rest? How are we supposed to keep up????

I think finding balance in our day to day lives takes effort. Balance is hard, but it is doable. These are ways that I’ve found work for me when I juggle one billion things happening at once & I hope they work for you too! Continue reading

Adult Life: My Work and Everything in Between

Today I just wanted to write about work and some essential down time. I absolutely love my job, but technically it falls under the ‘maintenance and assurance’ sector for the telecommunication company and well, we all know that means  our busiest sector and I feel like I spend all my time at work but this means it’s even more important for me to make some time for myself.

I work at least 51 hours a week, so obviously for me, I will never find balance in terms of hours spent, but that’s a common problem, so for me it’s more about how I’m feeling and what makes me happy. I’m so lucky that I enjoy what I do, not everyone has that luxury, but having some time to unwind is key to keeping myself sane. Continue reading

Makabana Creative Space & Coffee: Work-Chill Out-Collaborate-Connect-Have A Coffee!

In modern times the café for some people is also a place of work, either in solitude, or in a practice that is becoming more common in cities— co-working — where people, often independent, get together to work in the same space as others. There are various forms of co-working and co-working spaces, from dedicated spaces that can be rented by people wishing to co-work aligned to a particular industry, to more informal arrangements such as meet-ups for freelancers organized in cafés via social media.

For those that don’t know what co-working the simplest explanation might be…
“the use of an office or other working environment by people who are self-employed or working for different employers, typically so as to share equipment, ideas, and knowledge.” Continue reading
